Simple Woman's Daybook

For today, Thursday September 11, 2008

Outside my window...dark, silent, humidity as Ike heads our way.

I am thinking...how fun our picnic with friends was yesterday at Dixieland on the Square. We listened to music, ate with friends, and the kids ran around and danced. In spite of the humidity and the straight up noon sun, it was a good time. The photographer took several pics of Savannah. Check out the link below

I am thankful for...my ever sweet and thoughtful husband who surprised me with a gift when he came home from work today. For months now I have wanted an ipod holder to strap to my arm while I run but I never think to buy it. For no occasion at all he brought one home today to my surprise. Even though I got something I had been wanting for a long time, I am more thankful for him and all his unprompted gesture means.

From the kitchen...fresh baked bread out of the oven. I love the yeasty smell that fills the house as the crust forms in the oven. On a good week, I make all of our baked goods. But I must confess, I have store-bought pita bread in the cabinet and that's one bread I have not tried to tackle yet.

I am wearing...pink workout shorts, a maroon t-shirt, and a pair of reefs. For the record, I did wear heels and a skirt earlier for work. Want to know a secret? My career is just a front so I can wear heels!

I am creating...a menu for the weekend and next week with the help of my little chef, Savannah. We went to the library today and all she wanted to check out were cookbooks. This is not unusual. "Festive Foods" is a line of books for kids with recipes, traditions, and facts for several different countries. This time Savannah had her heart set on the Chinese book but it was out. We settled on a new line of books.

I am going...nowhere over the weekend because of Ike. Our plans were to attend a family reunion but it was cancelled for the first time ever (to my knowledge) due to weather.

I am reading...still, a Tale of Two Cities. For some reason I have not had as much time to read this past week.

I am hoping...that we do not get cabin fever this weekend! Maybe it's time to check out Sci-port.

I am hearing...Curious George, one of Savannah's favorite cartoons. She usually watches one episode before bedtime. Oh, as I type she is now switching over to Clifford. Another timeless favorite.

Around the house...somewhere a gecko is running lose. Savannah is hopeful it is the one she brought in the house and lost a few weeks ago and it can be returned to it's rightful place which is, the palm of her hand. How do you explain it is not right to torture God's helpless creatures when her perception is not of torture but devoted love? I pray the gecko is smart and hides well.

One of my favorite things is...blogging. It is accurate to say I am addicted. I could literally post this and begin another post. If you could see in my head you find more than one potential post lingering, awaiting it's turn to come out.

A few plans for the rest of the week... a birthday party tomorrow and over the weekend...who knows with the weather.
The picture I am sharing is at the top of the post. Let's all say it together..."Poor Java." Notice the pink thing around her neck? It's a pirate eye patch. Yes, Java was a pirate that day.
